Kidz in the Middle 2010 Seminars

Seminars are presentations on a wide range of interests to families with disabled children and those who work with them, ending with a question and answer session. Entry is FREE on a first come first serve basis. Seminars are of particular interest to parents, carers, professionals. Children welcome. Please browse the list of seminars below.

Toileting issues

This seminar will cover identifying toilet training readiness and how to introduce basic toilet training programmes and will include an introduction to the range of products and equipment available.

Sleep Issues facing children with learning disability

Sleep is a biological enigma - we do not fully understand why we need it, but we know it is essential to the body, mind and general wellbeing of the whole family. The talk is aimed at promoting good sleep hygiene, and to look at some basic strategies for you to use.

The Dynamic Movement Orthosis How can it help my child?

This session will provide an overview of how the Dynamic Movement Orthosis works and enable you to experience for yourself how it feels. In addition you will see videos of how children with several different presentations of Cerebral Palsy have benefitted from Dynamic Movement Orthoses.

Learning, teaching and assessment strategies for including children with special educational needs (SEN) in Physical Education and Sport

This presentation will provide an overview of a range of strategies to assist you in including children with SEN in a range of practical activities. A key focus of the session will be to demonstrate to you how all children can achieve in practical activities if teachers and coaches are ready to modify and adapt their practices.

Children with Developmental Co-ordination
Disorder (DCD) and its relationship to sport and
Physical Education

This presentation will introduce to the term DCD (also
known as dyspraxia) and its relationship to children’s
movement in sport and Physical Education.
Charikleia is a trained Physiotherapist and will also
discuss the relationship of her profession to multi
disciplinary approaches to supporting childrens’
physical educational development.

Healthy living for children with disabilities

This session will introduce how to lead a healthier
lifestyle, demonstrate government initiatives such
as ‘Change for Life’ and show how children with
disabilities can equally access health, diet and

Movement and Multi-Schools Pathways in early
years, primary, secondary and Special Educational Needs Schools

ESP specialise in the design, installation and
support of the playground as a context to deliver
improvements across the whole school. The heart of
ESP’s strategy is born from a Movement/Multi-skills
pathway through the use of specifically designed
playground markings and a structured nationally
accredited CPD training programme.

The Association of Wheelchair Children’s mission is to enable wheelchair-using children throughout the UK to reach their full potential. Throughout the day they will be running various activities including:- wheelchair skills, wheelchair dance, wheelchair games, wheelchair basketball,
wheelchair life skills.
Area 2
There will be various activities and demonstrations taking place throughout the day in this area including:
